Become a Thematic Expert

Lead Experts play a key role in each URBACT II project. They provide support for the entire duration of the project both in terms of content and working methods. They also contribute to the overall programme level activities on behalf of the project.

As the projects advance, they can also call on a limited number of Thematic Experts for ad hoc support regarding specific topics linked to implementing the project work programme.

Why should you become an URBACT Expert?

Who can be an URBACT II project Expert?

Experts need to have two essential qualities: a good level of expertise in a given topic and, for lead experts, the ability to orchestrate a project with other experts and activities.

An expert has:

  • Proven experience working in transnational networks
  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Where possible, operational knowledge of French and a third European language

To become a Lead Expert, the following are also required:

  • Proven experience steering or managing transnational networks
  • Capacity to facilitate working relations within a transnational group
  • Experience and interest in team building
  • Proven capacity to write in English for city professionals and elected officials
  • Excellent overall communication skills
