EU Sustainable Energy Week 2011
It's time to get into the starting block for next year's EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW), Europe's key event for a more sustainable energy future. Between 11 and 15 April 2011 hundreds of events organised in all parts of Europe will show, promote, discuss and celebrate energy efficiency and renewable energy - and you can be a part of it. Next year's EUSEW will put the spotlight on energy efficiency - your initiatives and contributions are needed to put it on the right track. As well as this particular emphasis on energy efficiency next year, the EUSEW will continue to be dedicated to renewable energy, just like in previous years.

Register now for OPEN DAYS 8th European Week of Regions and Cities
The Open Days entitled "Europe 2020: Competitiveness, co-operation and cohesion for all regions" will be held for the eighth time in Brussels between 4 and 7 October 2010. More than 130 seminars, workshops and debates as well as exhibitions and networking opportunities will take place, organised in partnership with 245 regions and cities from all over Europe and 30 companies, banks, associations and academic organisations.

New Regional Focus: The Regional Lisbon Index
URBACT is part of Europe's cohesion policy: its goal is to help implement the Lisbon-Gothenburg Strategy, which prioritizes competitiveness, growth and employment. The European Commission's Regional Policy department (DG REGIO) has just produced the latest in its series of short papers on regional research and indicators. This paper develops an indicator, the Lisbon Index, to measure how close an EU region is to achieving the main targets for 2010 on employment, education, and research and development, as set out in the EU's Lisbon Strategy.

New measures to improve housing conditions of Roma
The European Parliament has given its green light to a proposal from the European Commission which makes it possible to use European regional funding to improve housing for marginalised communities. This measure, previously agreed by the Member States, will be particularly welcomed by the Roma population as well as by the partners of the URBACT Roma-Net project which aims to improve the integration of Roma populations. Estimated to include around 10-12 million people in Europe, the Roma population often lives in extremely deprived and segregated conditions.

Perception survey on quality of life in 75 European Cities
How citizens perceive the quality of life in 75 major European cities? A survey was conducted by the European Commission in November 2009 to measure the local perceptions of quality of life in 75 cities (including more than 40 URBACT cities) in the European Union, Croatia and Turkey. A number of issues such as employment, environment, housing, transport, culture, city services and immigration are addressed by this survey.
