HISTORICENTRES_NET project aims at developing a specific  thematic network to exchange experiences, information and best practices for innovative methodology concerning sustainable management of historical centres,

by introducing economic, social and environmental sustainable aspects. The network will analyse and present the main factors and issues that constitute challenges for sustainable urban management and propose a strategy for public policy coordination and investment in historical centres.

The current experience related to the urban sustainability of historical centres pointed out difficulties and incompetence at putting into practice good praxis and sustainability desire; the reason of this difficulty are:

-The need to create new instrument of historical centre’s urban planning based on sustainability;

-The incompetence of many public administrator at starting real participatory policies;-The incompetence at managing complex topics like those about the environmental sustainability in a synergic and coordinated way among different referents;

-The need to train public and private experts for microclimatic and energy efficiency aspects and for the problem of integration of environmental elements in the urban system;

-The urgency to regain citizens’ trust and will to become again protagonists of cities’ creation and historical centres’ rehabilitation;

-The willingness to give a new urban dignity and consequently social sustainability to the life in the historical centre
