Results from the Conference "Implementing the Leipzig Charter - A Cities´ Perspective"

Final Flyer

In this flyer are shown the results from the conference in Leipzig on 10th / 11th of May 2011. To mark the finish of the URBACT II project LC-FACIL and four years of the Leipzig Charter the conference aimed to:

  • Show the current status of implementation of the Leipzig Charter
  • Find the missing links
  • And name the impacts for the next EU funding period

Viewpoints from all levels (EU, member states, regions, cities / the local level) were heard. A concrete topic of the conference was the discussion of the draft version of the Reference Framwork for Sustainable Cities (RFSC).

Local Action Plans (LAPs)

The development of concrete solutions for different challenges at the local level was one of the motives of the city partners to take part in the LC-FACIL working group. The so called Local Action Plans (LAPs) of all six partner cities are directly linked to one or more ofthe four LC-FACIL work packages.

All the six LAPs describe actions for sustainable integrated urban development and are based on decisions and discussions with the Local Support Groups in each city.

As all of the LAPs of the partner cities could be good practice examples for other cities, summaries of the actions and the development processes can be found at the following links:

Interim Brochure LC-FACIL Spring 2010

Almost a year ago the work of the group has started: beside the active participation in the development process of the Reference framework the cities started their work on their independend work programme, exchanged in depth their own experience and have researched whether other cities are facing similar hurdles when implementing the Leipzig Charter.

With this brochure the project presents itself:

its aims and work methodology,

  • all participating cities with an example of their particular experience and
  • their recommendations for a cooperation and support by regional, national and European counterparts.

Interim product Work package 2 - Finances and Cooperation

Survey among 45 European cities

In the frame of Work package 2 "Finances and cooperation" the experiences in the field by partners were collected and compared. In addition to that a survey among 45 European cities has been carried out on experiences and challenges when implementing integrated, sustainable urban development. A special focus was laid on the cooperation, interchange of resources and finances with all relevant levels involved (regional, national to European).

Whereas a short summary is included in the interim brochure of the project, this document provides the long version of the analysis and the results of the survey.
