Our Activities
After 6 months of developing the partnership and jointly designing the Work Programme for our thematic network with all partners, we started implementing our project in November 2008. The so-called ‘Implementation Phase’ will last for 36 months and will include activities such as: exchanges of experience between the partners involved, the development of an integrated Local Action Plan and the creation of a Local Support Group in each of the partner cities, and a close co-operation with and between the Managing Authorities from the national or regional level.
STATE OF PROGRESS
During the Development Phase, the Lead Expert realised Intake Visits to all Partner Cities and participating Managing Authorities between June and September 2008 to create a reliable basis for the Baseline Study. During this period, the cities established or intensified the co-operation with their Mangaging Authorities, while the Lead Partner gradually used these inputs and the feedback from the partners to prepare the Final Application. In late November 2008, our project received approval to be continued into the Implementation Phase.
Our first activities in the framework of the current Implementation Phase have focussed on the implementation of the First Thematic Seminar in Halandri in January 2009 and on the creation of four Thematic Working Groups within the project. In each of these ‘Partnership Clusters’, only those partners with a special interest in the cluster’s specific topic work together in order to share their experiences and to jointly develop new solutions with regard to the topics defined for the work of each of the four Thematic Clusters. These four topics of special interest for sub-groups of partners are “Regional Co-operation”, “Private Involvement”, “Roma Integration” and “Monitoring Systems and Evaluation”. The first round of Cluster Meetings was then held in the months of May and June 2009.
In the 2nd half of 2009, RegGov organised a Joint Seminar for the European Commission and the Managing Authorities associated to our project in Budapest in October 2009, and the Second Thematic Seminar took place in Nijmegen in November 2009. In November 2009, the RegGov network was also represented at the URBACT Annual Conference in Stockholm.
In 2010, the project held its next partner meetings as the second round of Cluster Meetings within the months from April to June 2010 and the Third Thematic Seminar in Oktober 2010. Our network also actively participate in further events at programme level, like the annual Regions for Economic Change Conference in May 2010 and the URBACT Annual Conference in Liége.
Between November 2010 and February 2011, the third and last Cluster meetings used to finalise and summarise the most important issues and to work on the common conclusions on the defined topics were successfully carried out.
Finally, the RegGov network organised its Final Conference in the Lead Partner city Duisburg (DE) on 12 May 2011. The nine project partners from eight countries have been working relentlessly for three years looking for joint, effective and sustainable solutions to integrated strategies for deprived urban neighbourhoods. The Final Conference was dedicated to present the project outcomes and results to a broader audience and to discuss the common recommendations with high-ranking representatives from the European Commission, the URBACT Secretariat, the Managing Authorities and City Representatives. The conference was followed by an International Exhibition on 13 May 2011 organised by the regional city network “Socially Integrative City North Rhine-Westphalia” where regional and international good practice of integrated development of deprived neighbourhoods was presented in a project market and discussed in workshops and seminars.
At present, the RegGov Lead Partner team is co-ordinating and preparing in close co-operation with its Partner Cities the closure of the project.
