In order to get to know ULSG members' opinions regarding the target area, the Belgian SURE partner prepared a questionnaire for them (French).

In line with the URBACT II principles, Local Action Plans must be based on the lesson learnt during the exchange and learning activities of the project, and LSGs have a central role in the design and implementation of the LAPs. The overall aim of the ULSGs is to improve the impact of URBACT exchange activities at local level. ULSG helps to spread the learning from transnational exchanges to a broader cross-section of local stakeholders and to ensure that the lessons learnt lead to change at a local level. How SURE partners will produce LAPs.

The purpose of this briefing note is to help project coordinators be consistent in local communications and to have something ready when they brief decision makers or the press. It might also be useful as part of an induction briefing for new LSG members.

SURE Thematic Partner, Studio Metropolitana (StudMet) has a specific support group: an Expert Panel on participatory planning techniques. The thematic contribution of StudMet to the SURE network is twofold: first, StudMet is expected to provide practical coaching support for four partner cities in the development and application of participatory planning techniques. In addition StudMet is responsible for developing a ‘toolkit’ of participatory planning techniques that were applied during the implementation phase of the SURE project. The role of the Expert Panel is to make their individual expertise available to SURE partners during the implementation phase and then to contribute their experience in the production of the ‘toolkit’.

On 15 October, second day of the SURE kick-off meeting, held in Gheorgheni, Romania, the whole day was dedicated to the Future City Game with ULSG members of the host city. This visioning exercise for all SURE partners was designed and facilitated by Studio Metropolitana, thematic partner of SURE, as a case study on participatory planning.

This presentation about the LAP area and partner level project development was given by the SURE partner Pori, Finland, during the SURE kick-off meeting, held in Gheorgheni, Transylvania, Romania, on 14-15 October, 2010.

Participatory planning is the horizontal theme in the SURE network. This is central to the success of the SURE project because the active engagement of local citizens is considered by all partner cities to be essential to the development of sustainable socio-economic regeneration. During the first partner meeting project partners and citizens of Gheorgheni, Romania had the chance to visit that efficient tool in action on 15 October, 2010.
