Main findings, conclusions and guidelines drawn from the exchange work carried out in the framework of the network in relation to the management of urban transformation processes in peripheral cities in metropolitan areas.

Local Action Plan intend to provide for each partner a concrete roadmap and a range of solutions to tackle the core issues identified at the start of the URBACT project. Therefore, the themes of NeT-TOPIC LAPs are quite diverse, depending on each city’s needs and contexts:

• Looking into the future: Guidelines to continue the transformation of L’Hospitalet in the next years.
• Industrial heritage in Sesto San Giovanni: a real asset for urban regeneration.
• Identifying opportunities in Salford to optimise the regeneration benefits of MediaCityUK on the neighbouring wards.
• Sacele - One step ahead for local development.
•  With Nanterre, an alternative for the Ouest Paris. Developing a sustainable and solidarity-based city
• “BARAKALDO PARTICIPA” Strengthening representative democracy and revitalising the associative tissue.
• Kladno, changing the image.
• “Haidari for All" - A New City Model.

The booklet provides information on the main activities and results acquired in the framework of the network.

The Bank of Urban Transformation Processes is a compilation of some representative practices, projects and solutions implemented or designed by NeT-TOPIC partner cities with reference to the network's 5 sub-themes.

Each "best practice" provides information on the project basic data, the context, main challenges, focus, main stakeholders inbvolved, as well as the main results (impacts and lessons learnt) among others. Apart from the information on the "best practices",  there is also available general information (from the Baseline Study) on the city context, the regulatory framework, the main challenges and solutions implemented in order to better understand the practices carried out.

Publication that gathers the interventions and conclusions of the Third Thematic Seminar organised by NeT-TOPIC under the title: Enhancing new forms of urban and metropolitan governance.

Before the start-up of the Third Seminar focused on "Enhancing new forms of urban and metropolitan governance", a Position Paper was produced by NeT-TOPIC partners with the coordination of the Lead Expert Mr. Fernando Barreiro.

This document circulated among all participants to the seminar. The Position Paper is a short and clear document, where project partners express their experiences and concerns in relation to the theme dealt. It aims to be a real framework to ensure a clear focus for the seminar.

This six-month publication aimed to provide information on the network and its evolution: on the implemented and upcoming activities as well as on the conclusions reached. It also included other sections such as interviews with relevant stakeholders, the network partners city profile as well as information on relevant issues related to the project themes.

European Metropolitan Areas are assisting to a transformation of their peripheries. From an initial situation of "satellite sites" morphologically characterised by big blocks of flats, and , functionally characterised as being dormitory cities, peripheral cities located in metropolitan areas are changing into new spaces that try to balance the residendential and economical functions, where shopping equipments and green areas are being established, and where new infrastructures are being developed.

The NeT-TOPIC Thematic Network is constituted by 9 medium size cities located close to a major city and inside a metropolitan area that are willing to develop a city model change: to transform from peripheral cities to central cities, from residential cities to daytime cities (university, administrative or business centres), from industrial cities to technological/knowledge/services cities, from monofunctional to multi-functional. The Baseline Study, coordinated by the Thematic Network Lead Expert, Mr. Fernando Barriero, intends to introduce and analyse the situation of these cities as well as to present the working methodology of the project.

The Baseline Study is sructured into three main sections:

1.- Introduction & State of the Art at European Level

2.- Partner cities' profile

3.- Synthesis & Working methodology
