CTUR

CTUR enquires into how port-cities can be productive and no longer simple transit areas through cruise tourism activity.
This means that one of the issue is also to solve the tensions between port functions and urban functions, to answer to inhabitants’ aspiration in terms of employment, quality of life, housing and satisfying offers of equipment and public spaces.

Italian architect, project manager of the Urban Planning Council Department of Naples and expert in Urban Integrated Approach Development has been in charge from 1994 of important European Programmes promoted by the European Commission in the framework of the Urban Development Policies: Urban I and Urbact I and II. As Project manager of Naples Urban I was responsible for the activities of coordination, monitoring and accountability of projects provided in measure 3 (Infrastructures and environmental), with particular attention to the interaction between these projects and the ones provided in measure 1 (economic activities) and measure 2 (social activities).  Promotion and management of the activities in measure 5: advertisement and dissemination of results.  As lead partner and partner of several Urbact thematic networks /working group has supported exchange of experiences between  cities - European and non - and implemented several topics of the Urban Integrated Approach Policies as governance and management of the projects, the sea towns challenges, the participation of the inhabitants and the role of the culture in the sustainable development of the historical centre. As expert attached to the URBACT I French Secretariat (free lance position) gave provision of expertise to the Cities of New Member State in the framework of the Support for Cities project

Vittorio Torbianelli

Associate Professor in Applied Economics. Deputy Director of the Department of Architectural and Urban Planning, University of Trieste. University activities focused on urban and regional economics, transport economics, maritime economics. Expert in planning and evaluating complex forms of intervention aiming at urban and territorial management and development. Specialized in assessing the socio-economic and financial impact of complex territorial interventions and transport systems with specific reference to the maritime port sector.

Thematic expert: Pauline Geoghegan

Architect and freelance consultant in Urban policies, expertises specifically in social inclusion, local development and revitalisation of disadvantage neighbourhood, transnational European networking facilitator.

Until the 3rd seminar held at the end of September 2009, CTUR network had the support of Mr Joseph Tomatis, as lead expert, President of  Détente Consultants en Loisirs et Tourisme (Paris - France), a consulting firm specialised in technical assistance to public and private companies, and to international organisations in the tourism, leisure and culture industries and Mrs Carine Guidalì, as thematic expert,  consultant of Détente Consultants (Paris – France), specialised in  Development of tourism strategy for territories.

In the first phase of the project the lead expert was Miss Rachel Rodrigues Malta, professor of the Department of Geography and Planning of the University Aix-Marseille I, Aix-en-Provence (France) and expert in urban planning in particular for port cities. She provided for the elaboration of the baseline study and cooperated  for the planning activities of CTUR phase II.  She predeceased, leaving a huge sorrow in everybody; she was a special person as well as a skilled professional.
