CTUR Thematic Journal
The ‘Thematic Journal’ is a precious tool for such an analysis: it aims at reporting the outputs of the seminars and the topics are enriched with contributions made by experts

CTUR 1st Thematic Journal/Physical and environmental components
This is the first “CTUR Thematic Journal” out of three journals that will be published.
It sets out to summarize the topics discussed during the first three thematic workshops organized between January and December 2009 and updated until March 2010 activities within the framework of the CTUR activities, which aim at sharing and analysing case studies concerning sustainable urban policies related to ‘Cruise Traffic and Urban Regeneration’.
This ‘Thematic Journal’ is an important output that aims at making sure that the results of the aforementioned meetings and workshops are capitalized and disseminated. It is particularly addressed to urban planners, civil servants and politicians.

The 2nd CTUR Thematic Journal/ Economic and Social Benefits
The second "CTUR Thematic Journal" is devoted to the “Economic and Social Benefits” dealt with at the CTUR workshop in Alicante and Valencia (Spain) in March 2010. The first journal was tentative and shall be updated after the final workshop due next july 7-8 in Naples.
This second Thematic journal is definitive and contains all the economic and social outputs of the case-studies presented during the 8 CTUR workshops and the special workshop co-organised with AIVP (international association of Cities and Ports) that gave us the opportunity to know the experience of European and non-European cities that do not belong to our network.

The 3rd CTUR Thematic Journal/ Governance
This issue of our Thematic Journal - the last in the planned series of three - is devoted to “Governance”. This issue was dealt with at the two CTUrRseminars in Rostock (Germany), on the 1st and 2nd July 2010, together with the subtheme “Port heritage and Governance”.

CTUR Baseline study
CTUR baseline study, written by Rachel RODRIGUES MALTA, defines the framework of CTUR thematic network and its main topic of study.
The URBACT network CTUR brings together 9 port cities of different size, 2 port authorities and 1 region,which are involved in the development of the cruise activities at their own level of competences. In all the cases, the cruise activities have been identified as a engine to stimulate the local economic base, to improve the relationships between the port and the city, to redevelop some port/industrial derelict areas in association with the neighbourhoods, and to enhance the port and urban heritage in such a way as to strengthen the identity, the image and the quality of life of the port city.
The baseline study was carried out from:
- Analysis of the existing general bibliography on port cities and cruise traffic;
- Visits of web sites specializing in European sea ports and European associations promoting cruise traffic;
- Visit of the web site of the International Association of Cities and Ports (Le Havre - France), specialized in the knowledge and promotion of port cities;
- Studies and documents on the topic provided by the CTUR partners (local studies; studies carried out in the framework of European or interregional networks);
- City visits to see the areas concerned and to talk with the partner (city and/or port authority) and with local stakeholders in order to get a better understanding of the local situation, needs and challenges. During these visits interesting local studies were made available in order to better define certain issues or identify questions;
- Exchange with partners within the first workshops.
from SUDEST to CTUR
From URBACT I to URBACT II

The topic «Cruise traffic and urban regeneration» (URBACT II), initially proposed by the city of Naples, registers in the continuity of work conducted from 2005-2007 in the framework of the working group SUDEST (URBACT I), centred on the study of specificities of the sustainable development of port cities. During this programme, the partners identified a tendency of the port cities to propose city-port interface as a place where are articulated new metropolitan logics and where, in a way, is organized «the future of the port city»
