With property market racing out of control and major democratic, economic and social changes in urban areas, new requirements for social housing, and even for "highly socialised housing" have emerged in the cities.

The first objective of the SUITE network is to cooperate among partners to optimise a sustainable, and affordable supply of housing and to assure social cohesion through social mix and sustainable housing.

Our common objective is to make decisive steps forward in developing higher levels of sustainable housing provision, in the respective local context, considering both the social and environmental perspectives. By combining both perspectives SUITE aims at the improvement of the steering ability of local authorities within an urban policy field characterized by a dynamic development in terms of economical, social, ecological and demographic challenges. In the last decades of 20th Century, Santiago de Compostela has experienced a big change, going beyond being a medieva style city to a modern and well-equipped major city. The Government team had the responsibility of closing that innovative cycle and designing the city of the future: a Santiago for living and working with a high quality of life, without loosing the constructive and aesthetical excellence started and with the World Heritage recognition in 1985.
