The 2016 Procura+ Awards saw the City of Copenhagen (Denmark) win "Sustainable procurement of the year" for its procurement of healthy, sustainable, biodiverse and appetising food. Transport for London was awarded “Innovation procurement of the year”. The British capital’s public transport operator sought to reduce the whole life-cycle cost associated with lighting the expansive London Underground network. Rijkswaterstaat (Netherlands) was recognised in the category "Tender procedure of the year" for an innovative contract to procure the works and services necessary to widen the A6 motorway. Case studies of all three award winning procurement processes are available.

The award organisers, ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability, are the coordinators of the Procura+ European Sustainable Procurement Network, which transitioned from the Procura+ campaign in 2016. The 40-member network recently released the 3rd edition of its keystone publication for public procurers, The Procura+ Manual - A Guide to Implementing Sustainable Procurement.

Last year, ICLEI celebrated 20 years of working on Sustainable Public Procurement. In that time, ICLEI has been involved in 150 sustainable and innovation procurement projects; organised 100 conferences, seminars and workshops; trained over 2,000 people; supported 300 cities in more than 50 countries, and saved 1 million tonnes of CO2.
