Transnational Meeting Ostrava
We're meeting with the REFILL network in Ostrava, in the heart of the Moravian-Silesian region, to review our work so far and discuss the Integrated Action Plans.
The City of Ostrava, the third largest city in the Czech Republic, is the host of our sixth Transnational Meeting that takes place from September 14-15.
On the programme:
- our well-known speed presentations about different temporary use initiatives in Ostrava
- site visits to Dolní Vítkovice (a unique and protected former ironworks, mine and steelworks site and home of the Colours of Ostrava festival), Provoz Hubina (a former black coal mine Hlubina now offering space to non-profit activities such as civic associations taking an active role in placemaking), the community garden „Tržnice“, the centre for contemporary art Plato, and others.
- working sessions: integrated action plans, mid-term review, REFILL magazines, lessons learned from our deep dive study visits, preparaton of the next transnational meeting in Athens and our final conference in Ghent,...
On September 16, you can still find some of the REFILL die hards at the “Experience Ostrava Differently” neighbourhood festival.
This festival takes place within the car-free day and turns neighbourhoods into street markets full of concerts, homemade food, picnics, street theatres, handcrafts workshops, flea markets and games. The main objective of this event is to show people how they can improve their city life – on their own. “Experience Ostrava Differently” is organised by the cultural centre Cooltour, which is a main representative of a temporary use in Ostrava, and other local bottom – up initiatives and individual citizens. This way they get a chance to “use” their own city according to their ideas. It is not only about enjoying the city differently, but this event is also about to give people in Ostrava a possibility to experience themselves differently, in a different situation, from a different perspective. The people in Ostrava can step out of their stereotypes and perceive neighbours as people who can reveal a completely different dimension of their life in the city. Check out the trailer here.
