Altea is a Valencian city located on the Mediterranean coast, in the Province of Alicante (Spain). It has a population of 23,000, of which 35% are foreigners, the majority coming from other European countries. This demography increases significantly during the summer months. Its main economic sector is tourism, followed by agriculture and fishery. Its multiculturalism proves in itself that Altea is a European city.
Altea is a charming and sustainable town. Its old town and its viewpoint are enormously known for their charm. Finally, Altea is a very cultural city, and it was awarded by the title of “Valencian Capital of Culture 2019”. This award confirms the firm commitment of Altea for culture as an instrument of social cohesion and economic development, underlining such cultural aspects like music, festivities and other local traditions.
