Barcelona's markets were one of the best practice case studies.
The World Urban Forum (WUF), a United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), met in Medellín last April 5 - 11 to debate the most pressing issues facing the world today in the area of human settlements. One of the documents distributed by UN-Habitat during the event attended by 25,000 people, amongst them authorities and government representatives, academics and urban development practitioners from across the world, highlights Barcelona's use of markets to create employment, urban development and sustainable environments. The document, called 'Job Creation and Local Productivity', is a report from the United Nations Advisory Committee of Local Authorities (UNACLA) and Case study 2.1 features a best practice example 'Markets as Drivers for Urban Regeneration and Employment: the Modernization of Street Markets in Barcelona'.Find attached the UNACLA document
