B.1. Understanding of integrated and sustainable urban development:
I have a Humanities and Tourism background with a Master Degree in "Cultural Management". For the last two years my professional career has evolved in the various dimensions of urban and rural development. As External Assistant I have been responsible for the design and coordination of the AGRI-URBAN and INT-HERIT projects, led by the Municipality of Baena (Spain) in the frame of the URBACT III Programme. I have been able to manage both networks specialized in territorial food systems and cultural heritage management. Previously in the last 25 years I have worked in different European and national projects in the frame of sustainable management, as manager of several projects in Programmes such as INTERREG, LIFE, TACIS or LEADER, among others. I also have experience as a coach and have worked with many public institutions. I have been a regular speaker on Environmental and food topics, rural development and cultural tourism in the context of International and national conferences. I have produced various communication materials and have managed some online media tools. I have acquired a high capacity to design and organise a wide type of events. Finally, at the same time I have worked as a project manager for different public institutions, I have developed some professional activities on my own, as well as cooperated with some international and national NGOs and associations such us Slow Food, Fundación Carasso, Subbética Ecológica, etc.
B.2. Understanding of exchange and learning processes at transnational level:
During the last three decades I have been engaged in the technical coordination of several EU transnational projects, which were developed in the frame of different programmes. My commitment as coordinator for the URBACT III Projetcs, AGRI-URBAN and INT-HERIT (http://urbact.eu), has been developed under the same profile. From 2005 to 2007 I coordinated and managed the Project TERRA OLEA (INTERREG IIIB SUDOE) - http://www.terra-olea.org/acogida.html; aimed at the creation of a tourist itinerary around one culture brand. From 2000 to 2002, I designed, managed and was the communication coordinator of the project LIFE Guadajoz (LIFE Environment) - http://ec.europa.eu/environment/life/project/Projects/index.cfm?fuseaction=search.dspPage&n_proj_id=1436&docType=pdf -, in which I participated in some transnational learning visits as well as being responsible for organising a transnational Summer Camp. In 1997, for a period of 6 months, I was involved as a technical manager in the cooperation project developed by the provinces of Cordoba (Spain) and Dornogobi (Mongolia), as member of the Baena Municipality staff, as part of the European Community TACIS CITY TWINNING Programme (https://www.juntadeandalucia.es/medioambiente/portal_web/servicios_generales/doc_tecnicos/aula_verde/av16.pdf ). Finally I have participated as a speaker in transnational conferences in some countries such as Marocco, Ecuador or France.
B.3. Proficiency in English:
I have a good level in understanding, speaking and writing English. For the last 3 years I have been working at EU level using English as my second language. I have an excellent level in understanding, speaking and writing French and a very good capacity for understanding Portuguese and Italian.

Expertise for the design and delivery of transnational exchange and learning activities:

C.3.1. Ability to communicate complex concepts to non-English speakers:
I can mention some situations in which I have been involved, thaat implied communicating complex concepts to non- English speakers. The first occasion was in the province of Dornogobi (Mongolia) as coordinator of the project SHARED MANAGEMENT IN ENVIRONMENT (TACIS CITY TWINNING), 1997, which included environmental education, under an environmental sustainability approach, a concept that was beginning to be launched but was still virgin in the Gobi Desert scenario. In the same years, as a catalyst for new activities within the framework of economic diversification in rural areas promoted by the LEADER community programme, I participated in training activities for the animation of local actors, bringing together for the first time private, public and social actors. In the year 2000, I was a speaker in the city of Quito, at the FLACSO University , before a large group of high-ranking military officers to discuss the perspective of territorial development from a culturally-based approach. In 2005, as coordinator of the TERRA OLEA Project, I had to deal with the introduction of a concept, oleotourism, which years before I had begun to define. Finally, since 2015 to present days, as the coordinator of the AGRI-URBAN project, I have had to handle concepts such as local food systems or rural-urban interconnection in ten European countries and in a scenario of small cities that were previously unaware of these concepts.
C.3.2. Ability to draw out, support the verbalization and documentation of knowledge and practice from participants:
The following three projects / actions are good examples of outputs produced to support exchange of experiences and knowledge at transnational level: Within the TERRA OLEA project (INTERREG Sudoe) the production of a guide in three national languages as well as in English (http://files.terra-olea.org/pt/Outros/Guia%20de%20Oleoturismo%20do%20Concelho%20de%20Mirandela-es.pdf), together with a website and a set of specific actions such as a "Transnational List" of olive oils were implemented under my coordination and management. In the framework of the AGRI-URBAN Project I have designed a model of micro-videos (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAfM55jPOEr_zZ1iOoLvmng) that are produced during the different transnational meetings according to a script and production made by the local partner under the coordination and guidance that I offer from the beginning to the post production and release of the video. Within the framework of the SHARED MANAGEMENT IN ENVIRONMENT Project (TACIS CITY TWINNING), given the difficulty of offering resources with material support, knowledge and practice focused on supporting and following a tree-planting experience in the desert that was carried out by another parallel project, facilitating a critical peer review among participants in both initiatives.
C.3.3. Ability to capture learning for participants to take away:
The following three tools are good examples of documents produced to capture the exchanged knowledge and experiences at transnational level: The final report of “Shared Management in Environment” (TACIS CITY TWINNING) is one more example of a document produced to share knowledge at transnational level. In the URBACT III Project named AGRI-URBAN (http://urbact.eu/agri-urban) I developed various articles (Our network. "Es Gallecs" as an Agri-Urban model initiative; Abergavenny, a foodie-community's sense of place; City and countryside, a Baltic travel) as well as cooperated to produce some Study Cases (Food Hubs, interconnecting actors in the re-territorialization process of food systems). In the URBACT III Project named INT-HERIT (http://urbact.eu/int-herit) I developed several articles (ARMAGH GAOL, The challenge of reusing old prisons). At a national level I have edited and coordinated a story book called "Voices of Silence" that captured the life story of a score of people linked to other traditional trades, then generating a didactic guide to share knowledge.
C.3.4. Ability to produce concise reports that incorporate good practices and policy messages:
I developed some concise reports and documents that incorporate good practices and policy messages. In projects such as LIFE GUADAJOZ (LIFE Environment) or AGRI-URBAN (URBACT III) I produced the Final Report (Layman’s Report) and Intermediate Report respectively. I have also cooperated with the Lead Expert of AGRI-URBAN and INT-HERIT (URBACT III) in collecting information from all partners and providing support in writing the Baseline Study. After each Transnational Meeting in both mentioned projects I usually produce Creative Minutes to report the content and outputs associated to the celebration of this events as well as introduce the conclusions and the linked knowledge. I also promote the creation of political statements by public actors working together in transnational projects as shown by the “Local food policy and employment in small and medium sized European cities” Manifesto of Mollet del Vallés (Barcelona) (http://urbact.eu/local-food-policy-and-employment-small-and-medium-sized-european-cities-manifesto-mollet-del-vall%C3%A9s) At a national level I have produced many other reports including the analysis of good practices and the dissemination of policy messages, for example in the cooperation project named OLIVAR CULTURA (EAFRD Fund) between different olive oil producer territories, or in the frame of the IPAC Project (ERDF Funds) in which all Cordoba province territories cooperated to create a common interpretation of cultural heritage.
Summary Expertise for the design and delivery of transnational exchange and learning activities:

In addition to the aforementioned experience, I have carried out different activities as a coach and lecturer in rural tourism courses, sociocultural animation, and cultural resources courses. I am the author of books, guides, videos and publications on this subject.
D.2. Ability to produce thematic inputs to feed in the learning process of in projects in which you have been involved:
In the above mentioned projects, I produced several thematic inputs. For example in the TERRA OLEA Project I produced a global concept of cultural tourism itinerary, with an associated brand and different types of templates, with specific conditions that potential members of the different stakeholders categories considered in the network should comply with. I have also designed a Transnational List of olive oils (http://files.terra-olea.org/es/TERRA-OLEA/Carta_de_aceites_terra_olea-es.pdf), ready to be adapted to different regional contexts, mixed with local recipes as representatives of the gastronomic identity. In the frame of IPAC Project I created a set of recommendations for interpreting the local cultural heritage, using the production of 7 micro videos as tools to communicate and transfer the knowledge and experience gathered by local people, experts and producers. In this project I also coordinated the production of two APPs aimed at facilitating archaeological sites interpretation by using Augmented Reality (https://itunes.apple.com/es/app/interpretaci%C3%B3n-del-patrimonio-arqueol%C3%B3gico-cordob%C3%A9s/id927833361?mt=8 & https://itunes.apple.com/es/app/torreparedones-y-museo-hist%C3%B3rico-arqueol%C3%B3gico-municipal/id925301489?mt=8) I have extended experience in the context of the AGRI-URBAN and INT-HERIT projects in producing papers, briefings or reports in order to facilitate group work, during transnational meetings as well as during the period in between
D.3. Ability to produce concise reports that incorporate learning from exchange & learning activities, put forward good practice:
The following activities are good examples of reports that incorporate acquired knowledge from practice exchange and learning activities, identifying good practice. Within the framework of the INT-HERIT Project, I have been producing, together with the experts appointed by the Programme, different tools that support the cities involved in implementing strategies to manage their local heritage. Thus, after celebrating transnational meetings, I am responsible for capturing knowledge and ideas and introducing them into video production, articles or practical notes, which are later delivered to the city involved and the network, to be used as background material in the work to be developed on a local scale. My above mentioned Final Master’s Degree Project is, as the INT-HERIT project are a good example of reports incorporating good practices and messages for an audience of city practitioners. During the development of the "Volver a empezar" project, I carried out an intense research on the life story of a cluster of traditional jobs and then created an educative proposal based on the values and good practices that they contained. Finally, I regularly create articles and reports for media as well as digital media such us my blog OLEOPOLIS (https://oleopolis.wordpress.com), disseminating the Knowledge derived from the use of good practices, as shown in my contributions to the Portuguese specialized publication OURO VIRGEM or the website of the AGRI-URBAN and INT-HERIT Projects
D.4. Understanding of how to maximize the use of project results for benefits in capitalization, policy design, awarenes:
The following activities are good examples: The "LIFE Guadajoz Project" developed experimental actions, for two years, in the framework of environmental activities to conserve and protect the Guadajoz River, financed by the LIFE EU Programme. The project was later continued for two additional years with the support of the Regional Government in order to facilitate the achievement of a political Agreement with a territorial basis aimed at protecting the river’s ecosystem in a permanent way. Over time this policy of consensus around the conservation of cultural and natural heritage has settled throughout Europe. The TERRA OLEA brand served to consolidate a pioneering experience of oleotourism in the three areas involved in the project, thanks to the commitment of the public and private actors who welcomed the brand as a territorial identity and as an economic proposal around which cultural, economic and social spaces have been consolidated. After this pioneering experience, oleoturism is today a recognised proposal inside the global offer of cultural and gastronomic tourism all over the world. In the AGRI-URBAN Project the political involvement of the public representatives has fostered the implementation of projects in which I had a coordination role, as it happened when Mayors were invited to actively participate in transnational meetings and release together a political Manifesto.
Summary Thematic expertise:
I have proven experience in designing and promoting transnational exchange and learning activities in the context of various EU projects (URBACT, INTERREG, LIFE, TACIS) which I have coordinated and managed over the last 20 years. I have often been invited as a speaker and coach in Cultural Heritage Management and Interpretation as well as in Cultural and Rural Tourism. I have experience in using the bottom-up approach to promote social changes due to my participation from the start in launching this method in the frame of the LEADER Programme promoted by the EU and I have later used this method in many other projects and activities. In the last 30 years I have collaborated with different small and medium sized cities in Spain, and since 2015 at European level in the frame of the EU Programme URBACT III, through the AGRI-URBAN and INT-HERIT projects in which I have acted as transnational coordinator. I have also worked as a freelance consultant for companies in sectors such as environmental education, cultural tourism or rural development. I have recognized abilities as a communicator, having published books, technical guides, reports, articles, videos and produced many communication tools (apps, blogs, social media, webs...). Thanks to my experience, I am capable of capturing knowledge, extracting content and adapting it to multiple audiences, in order to offer solutions to the needs and challenges that currently exist in the EU in terms of Arts and Culture initiatives.
Theme / Policy:
Sustainable Food
D.1. Deep knowledge on the selected theme and related policy challenges, including up to date practice, research, etc.:
I represent new actors working from different perspectives in the field of sustainable food systems. I have a broad background in territorial analysis and sustainability in managing cultural and natural resources together with extensive experience as small organic farmer producing olive oil from a set of local varieties to whose conservation I am committed. My professional career has been associated for the last twenty years to the Rural Development sector, due to my professional relationship with a rural association working under the umbrella of the LEADER Program. In my position as Project Manager I have had the responsibility of designing and managing many actions linked to the diversification and innovation of the food sector. From 2015, as the transnational coordinator of AGRI-URBAN (URBACT III), I have been permanently in contact with some relevant issues in the current scenery of local food systems, taking advantage of the opportunity to contact with experiences and good practices, transfer this knowledge and deliver different outputs such as articles, study cases, etc. I have also been involved as member in some transnational movements such as the eco-gastronomic network SLOW FOOD as well as in the Board team of Subbética Ecológica, an associative experience that links organic producers and consumers from 2009 until today, when it has been transformed into a Food Hub that weekly supplies food to more than 400 families and a group of 40 large consumers.
D.2. Ability to produce thematic inputs to feed in the learning process of in projects in which you have been involved:
I have produced thematic inputs to feed the learning process. Here are some of examples: As coordinator of AGRI-URBAN (URBACT III) I have been responsible for the technical proposal, the process of creating contents to support partner cities and have collaborated with specific notes in the writing of the Baseline Study. Throughout the implementation of the project I have designed methodological tools for the network, as well as technical reports on the project’s progress and the political positioning of the Mayors through a Manifesto. As the local coordinator of the project, I am responsible, in the municipality of Baena, for working with the Local Group of stakeholders, fostering the consequent participatory process and finally creating the draft of the city’s Integrated Food Action Plan. In this context, the production of all this type of inputs is frequent. As member of the technical team of the "Shared Management in Environment" Project (TACIS CITY TWINNING), I planned two transnational workshops in the field of environment for technicians of the public administration of Dornogovi’s province (Mongolia), creating briefings, templates and presentations. As coordinator of the "LIFE GUADAJOZ" Project I designed a training programme to introduce young people from the intervention zone into “soft techniques” of river restoration, in the same way that I designed the Agenda and tools used in the Youth Volunteer Work camp with participants from the Mediterranean basin
D.3. Ability to produce concise reports that incorporate learning from exchange & learning activities, put forward good practice:
In the field of research and defense of cultivated biodiversity, I have coordinated a project called ENVERO aimed at protecting and promoting the conservation and appreciation of local varieties of olive trees, editing a final report that has been widely disseminated and used by the Denomination of Origin BAENA to expand recognition for the cultivated varieties in the protected territory. I have also been the national coordinator of a project uniting eight territories of the Spanish state, called OLIVAR CULTURA, where the environmental, biological and economic potential of different local olive varieties has been analyzed and disseminated, as well as the complementary introduction of oleotourism experiences. Some of these reports have been published in the corresponding websites and specific blogs that I have created for this purpose, as is the case of PARAISO DE OLIVOS. In the same way, in the AGRI-URBAN project I am responsible for producing reports, videos, as well as for the management of our micro-site and social network accounts (Facebook and Twitter) As a Member responsible for projects of the SUBBÉTICA ECOLÓGICA Association, I have written several projects and presentations on behalf of the entity aimed at the implementation of strategic proposals to promote the short production and ecological consumption channels in the food sector.
D.4. Understanding of how to maximize the use of project results for benefits in capitalization, policy design, awarenes:
The following activities are good examples of how to maximize the use of projects results: In the local and transnational context related to the AGRI-URBAN and INT-HERIT projects (URBACT III), I am responsible for communicating and disseminating results drawn from both networks, including the digital strategy. During a meeting with all Mayors representing the AGRI-URBAN network, I was responsible for drafting and disseminating the political Manifesto of all cities involved. In the same way I coordinated the implementation of the programme of Social Gardens in Baena, currently in the process of expansion thanks to its capitalization and its extension to social groups with the support of the Carasso Foundation. Equal responsibility I have had in the field of the TERRA OLEA and LIFE GUADAJOZ projects as coordinator and responsible for communication and dissemination of results. In the case of the TERRA OLEA project, it has included graphic design and the production of numerous dissemination resources associated with the brand, such as website, guides, brochures, urban signage, digital applications, etc. In the promotion of local and ecological production sector I have actively participated in international events in project dissemination tasks, both as a member of the international organization SLOW FOOD (Salone di Gusto and Terra Madre, Torino 2002 & 2016) and nationally as a member responsible for projects in the Ecological Subbética Association.
Summary Thematic expertise:
I have proven experience in transnational exchange in the context of various EU projects (URBACT, INTERREG, LIFE, TACIS ...) that I have coordinated over the last 20 years. I represent the new actors working from different perspectives in the field of sustainable food systems. I have a broad background in territorial analysis and sustainability in the managing of local resources together with a long experience as small organic farmer.
