4th Transnational Meeting in Greece, a creative effort to find tomorrow's solutions to struggle isolation

The 4th TNM was held on April 17th and 18th in the city of Cerres, Greece. In addition to the delegations from the 10 cities participating in the "Breaking Isolation" project of the Urbact network, this meeting also welcomed some members of the ULGs (Urban Local Groups) to enhance their involvement.

3rd TNM in Portugal, an exercise in projecting towards a future without social isolation issues

February 20th and 21st marked the holding of the 3rd Transnational Meeting "Breaking Isolation" in Pombal, Portugal, bringing together the 10 delegations from the Urbact program.

First TNM of the Breaking Isolation network in Agen

The city of Agen, represented by Claire Rives, municipal councillor delegated to the CCAS (Central Fund for Social Activities), had the pleasure of hosting the delegations from the nine European cities of the Breaking Isolation network on September 13 and 14, 2023. These two days were an opportunity for our partners to meet and participate in cohesion workshops organized by Christophe Gouache, the Expert of the Breaking Isolation network. A meeting that also allowed for raising awareness and involving participants in the entire process.

Social isolation: a silent and nearly invisible epidemic that needs to be broken

Humans are, by nature, social creatures. We, humans, need social interactions. We need to talk, to laugh, to cry, to play, to share. Of course, we also enjoy, sometimes, to withdraw and take a break from social interactions. This is the need for solitude. And it’s just fine and a rather healthy practice. Because it’s temporary, it’s about taking time just for yourself.

But what happens when one does not get any social interaction, at all? And when it’s not by choice? When a person has, completely, and for a long period, no meeting, no sharing, no exchanging with his/her fellow human? What happens when one gets truly isolated, left alone? What happens to our society when more and more people get isolated, feel left out, abandoned, unfit for society?
