Maria José Efigénio is a Senior Officer at the Directorate-General for Territory, since 2022, were she has been working in the areas of urban policy and in the promotion and implementation of programmes for sustainable urban development, at national and international levels.
At national level, she is part of the Technical Secretariat of the National Initiative for Circular Cities, a project under the responsibility of the Directorate-General for Territory, which has the aim of supporting and empowering municipalities in the transition to the circular economy.
She has taken part in different types of national and international knowledge-sharing events and workshops within the scope of European programmes for sustainable development.
She has a degree in civil engineering and professional training in Public Administration in several areas, such as public procurement, public infrastructures and regional development.
She was Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Ferreira do Alentejo from 2017 to 2021, acting as Vice-President.
Previously, she was Head of Division of Works, Urbanism and Environment of the Municipality of Almodôvar, for several years. She also was Head of Division of Asset Management at the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Solidarity and Social Security and she was a Senior Officer at the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.
