Join us in Hamburg to discover practical solutions for increasing the use of active mobility and implementing more sustainable, inclusive and people-centred urban transport systems!

The EU City Lab on Active Mobility is a knowledge-sharing event co organised by URBACT and the European Urban Initiative (EUI), with support from the host city of Hamburg, (DE). It will take place from the morning of 28 October until the afternoon of 29 October 2025.

The event will focus on how cities can effectively promote walking, cycling, and other human-powered or soft mobility modes by addressing three key areas:

  • Changing behaviours to encourage more active mobility choices;
  • Leveraging data and technology to support smarter, more integrated mobility systems;
  • Ensuring accessibility and inclusion so that active mobility benefits all users, regardless of age, ability, or location.

Drawing on practical strategies, solutions, and lessons from EUI, UIA, and URBACT projects, the Lab aims to inspire cities across Europe to turn ambition into action and scale up sustainable urban mobility solutions.

This EU City Lab is a unique opportunity to:

  • Discover how Hamburg city is putting active mobility into practice, including visits to local sites.
  • Learn how other European cities are addressing key mobility challenges through behaviour change, data and digital tools, and inclusive planning.
  • Exchange directly with city peers and experts on effective methods for scaling up integrated and active mobility.
  • Bring home new ideas, tools, and inspiration to strengthen mobility planning in your city.

The event will bring together city representatives, urban planners, mobility practitioners and experts working on sustainable urban mobility across Europe.

What is an EU City Lab?

The Hamburg event on Mobility follows a series of EU City Labs delivered across 2023 and 2024 on the topics of Sustainable Food Systems (Mouans-Sartoux (FR), Liège (BE) and Milan (IT)) and Energy transition (Viladecans (ES) and Bucharest (RO)).
