Summary
Dr. Mario Žuliček holds a PhD in Information and Communication Sciences and works as a researcher at the University of Rijeka. He has more than 15 years of experience in the preparation and implementation of projects at the local, national, and European level, with a strong focus on cooperation with cities and public authorities.
His expertise focuses on participatory governance, youth policies, policy evaluation, and integrated urban development. He has coordinated evaluation processes of local youth policies, the Council of Europe’s ELoGE programme for Croatia, and participatory budgeting initiatives in several Croatian cities.
For six years, he was actively involved in the work of the National URBACT Point for Croatia, where he supported cities participating in different types of URBACT networks and closely cooperated with the URBACT Secretariat in Paris. Through this role, he gained in-depth understanding of the URBACT methodology, transnational cooperation, and capacity-building processes for cities.
He successfully completed the Council of Europe School on Participatory Democracy and has contributed to the Europe Goes Local programme as a national delegate in Croatia and as a mentor for cities in Eastern Europe and the Caucasus.
Previously, he spent almost nine years working at the national association of local self-government units in Croatia, cooperating directly with mayors, local officials, and national authorities, and contributing to working groups for the preparation and monitoring of legislation and strategic documents.
At the international level, he has experience serving in the governing bodies of major international organisations, including ALDA, the Assembly of European Regions, and the Youth Regional Network.
