Summary
I am working on the specific context of temporary use since 2009 as the project manager of ZZZ - ZwischenZeitZentrale in the city of Bremen, Germany. The ZZZ is an implementation oriented project that is hosting several temporary use projects by its own and supporting other projects all over the city. As a project manager I´m connecting the different stakeholders, consulting the administration and organizing workshops to collect needs and expectations of users as well as neighbors and local politics.
With the city of Bremen I have been involved in the Urbact projects TUTUR and REFILL. In both we were sharing our best practice experience in Bremen with the partner cities. Since 2023 our office organized the national network on temporary use (Netzwerk Zwischennutzung) in Germany. Hereby I collected a fundamental knowledge on existing projects, challenges and solutions in overcoming them.
In 2024 I supported the Greenplace network as an Ad Hoc Expert and gave insights on the handling of vacant and underused spaces.https://urbact.eu/search?keyword=Greenplace
Nevertheless we as an office developed ideas for brownfields in several german cities together with partners.
In my experience short termed projects on vacant sites are an excellent instrument to initiate new usages, to involve people in city delopment and to re-integrate places in the urban usage. They are important to spare co2 imissions and help to develop long term perspectives.
