Summary
I am a Civil Transportation Engineer, Associate Professor at the Department of Surveying and Geoinformatics Engineering, University of West Attica (Greece), with more than 15 years of international experience in sustainable urban mobility, transportation planning, road safety and intelligent transportation systems. My work combines academic excellence, applied research, technical consultancy and capacity building to support cities and public authorities in designing and implementing integrated, evidence-based mobility policies and strategies.
I hold an MSc and a PhD in Transportation Planning and Engineering and have completed three postdoctoral research fellowships at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and the Technical University of Munich (TUM), funded through competitive individual fellowships. Throughout my career, I have developed extensive expertise in transport planning, sustainable mobility, transport infrastructure, road safety and smart mobility solutions, while working closely with municipalities, regional authorities, ministries, European institutions and private organisations.
As a transportation consultant and freelance Civil and Transportation Engineer for more than 15 years, I have successfully delivered numerous consultancy projects involving Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs), traffic impact assessments, road safety audits and inspections, parking strategies, traffic management and geometric road design. I am also co-founder of ScienTra – Science of Transport Company, providing specialised consultancy services in transport engineering, sustainable mobility and transport innovation.
My international research experience includes participation in 34 research and innovation projects funded by the European Commission, international organisations and Greek public institutions. These projects have addressed sustainable urban mobility, road safety, connected and automated mobility, intelligent transportation systems, transport policy, behavioural analysis and data-driven mobility planning. My scientific work has resulted in 33 peer-reviewed journal publications and 114 full-paper conference publications.
Beyond research and consultancy, I have extensive experience in facilitating collaboration between academia, public authorities, and stakeholders, translating scientific knowledge into practical solutions for cities. I actively contribute to capacity building, policy development and knowledge transfer through participation in European projects, scientific committees, professional associations, and international conferences. I previously served as President of the Hellenic Institute of Transportation Engineers and continue to serve as a reviewer for leading international journals and conferences.
As a Validated Expert in the URBACT IV Pool of Experts, I support European cities in the design and implementation of integrated urban mobility strategies, participatory planning processes, stakeholder engagement, and transnational learning activities. My expertise includes facilitating knowledge exchange, strengthening local capacities and co-creating innovative, sustainable mobility solutions aligned with European urban policies.
