URBACT beneficiaries in Ireland

Following the URBACT Programme Monitoring Committee meeting on 8th October 2025, Irish local authorities will be party to four of the 25 new Transfer Networks (TNs) with them offically kicking of their journey on the 1st of November. This call represented the penultimate one of URBACT’s fourth programming period.

  • We are excited to announce that Galway City Council will participate in URBACT for the first time.
  • We are delighted to see the return of Limerick City and County Council, currently approaching the end of their URBACT BiodiverCity and GreenPlace networks.
  • We are also delighted to see the return of Dublin City Council too. Dublin is currently a partner on the Innovation Transfer Network WISH CITIES.
  • We are excited to have Monaghan County Council involved too, having been involved in the past during URBACT’s second programming period.

We are thrilled to have them all on board!

Below is a brief description of the exciting projects our Irish partners will tackle alongside their European counterparts!

The CALL-Accessible City for ALL network involving Galway City Council will be led by Komotini, Greece and also includes partners from Croatia, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Serbia and Slovakia. The project seeks to address how cities can co-design and implement policies that eliminate physical, social and digital barriers, especially for persons with a disability. You can read more about the Good Practice which Komotini will transfer.

The ReDAN network involving Limerick City and County Council will be led by Ormož, Slovenia and also includes partners from Bosnia & Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Portugal, Serbia and Ukraine. The project sets out to transform degraded areas into biodiversity zones, nature conservation and nature-based tourism. You can read more about the Ormož Good Practice being transferred here.

The CITI4UD networks involving Dublin City Council will be led by Alytus, Lithuania and also includes partners from Greece, Italy, Moldova, Spain and Ukraine. The project seeks to promote collective decision-making with residents when it comes to developing their locality. You can read more about the Good Practice which Alytus will transfer.

The P.A.R.K.S network involving Monaghan County Council will be led by Perugia, Italy and also involves partners from Bulgaria, Hungary, Portugal, Spain and Ukraine. The project seeks to enhance ecosystem resilience, climate adaptation and biodiversity through a comprehensive management of green urban assets. You can read more about Perugia’s Good Practice being transfer here.

The next and final call under URBACT Programming Period IV is for Action Planning Networks (APNs). APNs see approximately 8 to 10 towns and cities work together for up to 2.5 years to tackle a common policy challenge in the realm of sustainable urban development. The exchange of learning and good practices, aided by visits to one another’s localities, helps each partner to collaboratively develop an individual Integrated Action Plan to best drive change at their local level. More information will follow in the coming months, but this Call is envisaged for April to June 2026.

It is never too early to begin thinking about how your locality could participate in URBACT so do reach out to kmurphy@emra.ie and schedule a chat in the coming weeks.
