BiodiverCity Peer Learning Event: Poljčane combined nature and urban solutions!

Edited on 05/10/2024

We spent a fantastic two days in Poljčane for the BiodiverCity Peer Learning Event, where cities and experts together explored how nature-based solutions can be applied to fight.

📅 Day 1: Permaculture and apitherapy
The first day started in Dole, where town leaders and participants presented the local challenges. We then had an in-depth look at the theory and practice of permaculture in cities, which gave us all new perspectives. A special highlight of the afternoon was a demonstration of apitherapy, where we experienced the healing power of bees with the help of Boštjan Jug.

📅 Day 2: nature-based solutions along the Dravinja River
We started the second day by exploring the Dravinja River, where Kim Mezga's presentation focused on the unique biodiversity of the river. And Tadej Žurman gave an inspiring presentation on how we can apply nature-based solutions to tackle the climate crisis. We ended the day with a walking tour of the local Miyawaki forest and school garden.

These two days proved that nature-based solutions are key to creating sustainable cities. Thank you to all participants for their contribution and inspiring ideas!
