Edited on 20/08/2024

The Clermont Innovation Week (CIW) was back from 2 to 11 April 2024. This week of events, coordinated by Clermont Auvergne Metropole, puts the spotlight on science and innovation, with a rich program of over 50 events: conferences, exchanges and experiments on subjects ranging from deeptech to social innovation.
For this 7th edition, with regards to the Urbact program FEMACT-cities, the CIW was placed under the banner of gender equality as a transversal theme running through the entire program.

The Hackhaton « Innovate HER » gathered 18 young people who were asked to brainstorm for 2 days on the theme of gender equality and to propose a project that they pitched to a jury on 4 sub-themes: Education, Women in the city, Gender stereotypes and Physical activities.
With this Hackathon, the aim was to have young people’s view with regards to the place of women. This gave rise to surprising projects, such as the "nightclub escape game" or how to get out of a nightclub "safely" for a woman, "Festiconte" or how to reverse the roles of little boys and girls in an invented tale, or interactive workshops with parents to show that jobs can be for girls as well as for boys.

Other events stressed on the place of women in science, and promoted forgotten women scientists. Workshops were also put in place for girls, combining technology, science and art to reverse a common tendency of girls to feel illegitimate in favor of boys in scientific and technical subjects.
Women's safety in public transports was discussed and led to the presentation of the "Pinkzone" initiative, which proposes to mark out in pink, areas reserved for women on public transport.

Physical activity and sedentary lifestyles of women was the subject of the national observatory of physical activity, since cardio vascular deseases and heart attacks are the major cause of death among women.
A special « wiki » workshop was set up to improve articles on sport clubs and biographies of sportswomen on Wikipedia to make Auvergne sportswomen more visible.
And finally, conferences focused on 3 remarkable women entrepreneurs to discuss their carreers, highlighting the specific challenges they faced as women and mothers.
