The European URBACT "Comings and Goings" network, led by the Intermunicipal Community (CIM) Viseu Dão Lafões, held its 2nd Transnational Meeting on 23 and 24 June in Kymi-Aliveri, Greece. The meeting brought together representatives from the partner cities and regions involved in the project, which aims to adapt and implement the "Ir e Vir" flexible on-demand transport model, developed and operated by CIM Viseu Dão Lafões, in different European contexts.
Over the two-day meeting, partners gained a deeper understanding of the transfer process of the "Ir e Vir" Good Practice, reviewed the main findings of the transferability study carried out within the project, and shared the specific mobility challenges faced by each participating territory. The programme also included collaborative working sessions led by the network's Lead Expert, aimed at identifying joint solutions, strengthening peer learning, and defining the next steps for the local implementation of the Good Practice.
The meeting also enabled partners to gain a better understanding of the territorial context and local development initiatives promoted by the Municipality of Kymi-Aliveri, the event's host, reinforcing the importance of European cooperation and the exchange of experiences in developing innovative responses to mobility challenges in low-density territories.
In addition to CIM Viseu Dão Lafões, the project leader, the partnership includes the Municipality of Kymi-Aliveri (Greece), the Šibenik-Knin County Public Institution for Coordination and Development (Croatia), the Municipality of Jõelähtme (Estonia), the Tysmenytsya City Council (Ukraine), Jurbarkas District Municipality (Lithuania), and El Vendrell City Council (Spain). The project is co-funded by the European Union under the URBACT IV Programme.
The project's objective is to transfer and adapt the "Ir e Vir" model—a flexible, on-demand public transport system successfully implemented across the 14 municipalities of Viseu Dão Lafões—to other European regions with similar characteristics, contributing to improved mobility and better access to essential services in rural and low-density areas.
