DARING CITIES NETWORK MET IN KRAGUJEVAC

The Daring team engaged in the treasure game trough the city

The 18th and the 19th of February 2025 our teams gathered in one of the DARING cities of this ITN network: Kragujevac!

The Daring cities transfer methodologies combines the carousel model where every transfer partner will get to join every transnational meeting, getting to know one city after another. After the first network meeting in Ravenna, held on last November, the second appointment brought everyone to Serbia.

The meeting was focused on going deeper on the project trajectory and methodology, and every cities played a game with the goal to define and share its own urban regeneration strategy, the tactic or tactics that will support it and the path that will lead to the investment plan for the collaborative regeneration of the selected neighbourhood, districts or areas.

Doing this we reviewed and test the transferability study of the project that has been presented by the end of the month by our network Lead Expert: Levente Polyak.

While hardly working on project goals, we had the opportunity to go deeper on the study case of the city of Kragujevac, discovering the Serbian city: its squares, its citizens and its history. We walked by its street also thanks to a funny treasure game organized by the Serbian team. We run through parks, museum and historical buildings; there was DEFINITIVELY a winning team (and the author of this article knows who was it), but we are still arguing on who won the little FIAT Zastava: a symbol of the industrial soul of Kragujevac.

Kragujevak has been the Serbian capital from 1818 to 1839 and the first Serbian constitution were discussed in 1835 by the national assembly gathered in the city. It has been a standard of democracy and constitutional model, and we really thanks the Kragujevac team that made us discover all this.

The second day the project teams, lead by the deputy mayor Dejan Ružić, travelled around the city district that hosts the Military-technical Institute, a space of cultural and historical relevance for the city. A part of this area is the interest of the Kragujevac team within the DARING ITN network, and the DARING model has the goal to help developing a shared identity that will move the development and reinforce the attractiveness of the area and therefore the city; define an integrated mechanism for planning and managing the cultural and historical and industrial heritage and design a collaborative path for the regeneration of the old assembly building of the city.

Fun facts: Altea people travelled for more than 4.600 kilometers in 4 days, but the winner of this travel challenge was declared being Saveria Teston, the regeneration expert that travelled from Ravenna to Serbia taking 5 differents means of transports to arrive to destination: Daring cities all over Europe J
