- Milișăuți is a unique urban settlement in Suceava County, having transitioned from a commune to a town in 2004 while maintaining a dominant agrarian profile, famously known as the "Pickle Empire". With a population of 5,500 that has seen a decline over the last decade, the town faces the challenge of single-sector economic dependence (cabbage and cucumber processing) and an aging demographic. While it produces over 500 tons of pickles annually, production often remains at a household level rather than an industrialized, high-value scale.
- The current administration is aggressively implementing infrastructure upgrades through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and PNI (Anghel Saligny), including smart gas distribution and sewage systems. These utilities are essential "policy entry points" that will allow the town to move from traditional wooden barrels to automated, EU-certified processing units. Additionally, Milișăuți’s experience in cross-border cooperation (e.g., the "Be preventive" project) provides a solid foundation for transnational exchange.
- The project aims to co-create an Integrated Action Plan (IAP) to professionalize the local brand and diversify into agro-tourism and social entrepreneurship. By learning from European peers, Milișăuți seeks to implement a circular economy by transforming vegetable waste into energy or compost and adopting digital tools for local producers to access new markets. The ultimate ambition is to bridge the urban-rural gap, creating a "Productive City" that retains its youth and respects its historical roots while embracing the Green and Digital transitions
