City of Poznań is increasingly affected by climate change, facing heatwaves, droughts and flooding, particularly in dense urban areas, with limited green space. These challenges impact the quality of life of residents, especially vulnerable groups such as children and seniors.
In response, Poznań has developed the Municipal Climate Adaptation Plan and implements several actions related to blue and green infrastructure and nature-based solutions (NbS) in urban space. The city is currently implementing a flagship initiative transforming schoolyards into climate-resilient, multifunctional spaces (9 pilot schools), as well as natural playgrounds in kindergartens, green courtyards, pocket parks etc., with solutions already tested and designed for replication.
On the other hand, as the city is usually the main investor, with public funds, it appears relevant to search for different models of cooperation with the private sector and the third sector (NGO), to encourage additional private resources to invest in NbS and to ensure social participation in the process.
City of Poznań is willing to join the partnership focused on these topics, in particular:
Cooperation between public sector and private sector on implementing actions in the field of adaptation to climate change in the city (in particular nature-based solutions in urban space.)
For the pilot action Poznań would like to test a model of cooperation between public and private stakeholders on implementing NbS in one of deprived districts of the city. It will include:
a) developing a diagnosis of the potential for NbS in this area,
b) creating a partnership of public and private stakeholders,
c) implementing and testing an action, as well as testing the model of cooperation itself – to be up-scaled in the future.
Poznań is an experienced and committed partner, open to collaboration within an Action Network focused on climate adaptation, NbS and particiaption models, and is particularly interested in joining a consortium led by an experienced Lead Partner.
