Looking for Project Partners
The City of Brno is looking for project partners to join an Action Network focusing on the topic of local food production and consumption.
Who we are
The City of Brno is currently focusing on local food production and consumption by several means. The main one is coordinating activities of several stakeholders, e.g. region, local action groups, or universities. The territorial focus of this cooperation is the Brno Metropolitan Area that has 730 thousand inhabitants and includes the city of Brno and the municipalities in its hinterland. The cooperation in relation to food started last year, and Brno aimed its activities primarily at support of local food production in school canteens and promotion of the topic among general public. School canteens are encouraged to use local production thanks to voluntary activities. General public is informed about the topic via specific events and promotional and educational activities to support their aim to buy local products.
Why we want to deal with this topic
We and stakeholders in the Brno Metropolitan Area realize that the topic of local food is highly relevant today. It strengthens local economy, ensures higher food security, reduces environmental impact or provides better quality to citizens. This topic needs coordinated and integrated approach among relevant stakeholders so that the local food production can be systematically consumed in the territory.
What we want to focus on in the project
We would like to further enhance activities aiming at providing local food production to consumers in the territory. We as Brno want to focus on activities like enhancing local production in public catering and canteens, strengthening cooperation between stakeholders in the territory (e.g. new ways of cooperation, developing food strategy together), participative tools for stakeholders and citizens, or shortening food chains (e.g. connecting public canteens with farmers).
