  • La Rivière de Corps is a municipality located on the outskirts of a city composed of 62 443 residents and a member of a local authority comprising 81 municipalities et de 163 350 residents.
The municipality’s two main priorities are sustainable development to tackle the climate crisis and strengthening social cohesion within our community.

  •

Since 2020, La Rivière de Corps has produced three major initiatives relating to these two themes :
    - Development of a hamlet “La Boîte a l’Être” that serves as a hub for socialising, activities and events, open to all residents of the local area. What makes this place special is that it was designed and created by the residents for the residents. The aim is to foster or build social connections among residents by encouraging intergenerational interaction and the quality of Iife for our residents,
    - The urban regeneration of the town centre in order to address current climate
challenges (removal of waterproofing, development of greenways and greening) with
a view to encouraging the creation of meeting places (renovated shops, children’s
play areas, islets of coolness, …),
    - Renovation of the tennis complex to improve accessibility for people with reduced
mobility and for local children, both during and outside school hours.

  • The municipality wishes to continue to implement its policy :
    - By developing short food supply chains and the market gardening activities of local
businesses to supply the school canteen. Beyond local economic development and
offering high-quality food products, the municipality also wishes to support the
integration of unemployed people into the workforce and educational initiatives in our
    schools,
    - By rehabilitating its schools to make them more resilient to climate change, through
energy-efficient renovations and by introducing greenery into the school playground,
    - By renovating a neighbourhood that is over 50 years old in order to reduce its
environmental impact and strengthen social ties between residents,
    - By creating an educational forest to raise awareness of sustainable development and strengthen intergenerational ties.

  • The implementation of these projects will require fairly broad public involvement (teachers, staff, parents, pupils, organisations, professionals, etc.).

  • As part of the URBACT project, the municipality of La Rivière de Corps is seeking to play an active role within the network, contributing its practical experience of small-scale projects that combine the transformation of public spaces, social inclusion and local food production, whilst also benefiting from the experiences of the other towns in the network.
