Structuring a Reuse Sector for Materials from Deconstruction and Donations.

Tours Métropole Val de Loire (300,000 inhabitants - France) aims to create an economically and ecologically sound sector for deconstruction and reuse. The local authority hopes to create an economic opportunity for construction companies that do not want to destroy their unsold materials, or to valorize the products of their demolitions, and for individuals who refuse to see the remains of their construction projects destroyed. This is a pioneering sector that the Métropole supports because it would reduce waste sent to landfills, limit the sector's greenhouse gas emissions, reduce pressure on natural resources (water and sand), and  to offer a new service to individuals by selling certified and guaranteed reused materials. The first step has been launched : the Métropole has made a storage facility for donations available to a multi-partner economic consortium (association, company, and architect). Our goal is to test this model and scale it up to create a genuine public policy for reuse. Important operations are to come in the territory, which will allow testing the methodology. We are looking for a leader to join our team. Our central location in France is strategic. It’s our first URBACT adventure, our motivation to share this experience is maximum!
