Women for Green Industry: building local talent ecosystems in industrial cities

Avilés (Spain) is exploring an URBACT Action Network on how intermediate industrial cities can attract, train and connect more women and girls to the talent pipeline of the green industrial transition.

The idea builds on Avilés’ recent work in the URBACT In4Green network, where Avilés was the Lead Partner, and on a concrete local challenge: industrial companies and R&D centres increasingly need technical and scientific talent, while women remain underrepresented in STEM-related pathways and green industrial careers.

We are looking for cities interested in exchanging and testing local actions such as:

  1. inspiring girls and young women towards green and technical careers,

  2. strengthening links between schools, VET, universities, companies and innovation actors,

  3. mentoring and role model programmes,

  4. practical challenges and pilot experiences connected to green industry,

  5. pathways from education and training to employment in industrial sectors in transition,

  6. local governance models to build more inclusive talent ecosystems.

We are especially interested in cities with an industrial profile, green transition ambitions, skills shortages, gender equality priorities, or existing initiatives related to STEM, VET, employment, innovation or industrial transformation.

If your city is working on similar challenges and wants to explore concrete, transferable actions at local level, we would be glad to connect.
