Are Urban Gardens the place for modern community hubs?

From Rome (IT) to Vilnius (LT) and A coruna (ES), Urban Gardening plays a key role in creating social links and is at the forefront of social innovation.

Urban Gardening is a now widespread concept. That is how Wikipedia proposes to define it: "Urban gardening is the practice of cultivating, processing and distributing food in or around a town, or city. The concepts in Urban Gardens and the associated facilities have received significant attention and popularity in the last 10 years and are growing to meet the needs of the ever-developing urban life."

But what happens in real life in European cities and towns? How can one build and manage urban gardens? Are Urban Gardens just about gardening in public or private plots, or are they creating something else, that one could call real community hubs?

Foram aprovadas, pelo Comité de Monitorização URBACT, 23 Redes de Planeamento de Ação, as quais envolvem 26 países e 203 parceiros. A decisão teve lugar no dia 25 de junho de 2019, na reunião realizada em Alba Iulia. Com a aprovação destas redes, concluem-se os procedimentos concursais no âmbito do URBACT III.

The challenges of implementation

“The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something.” All European cities can certainly endorse this quote by President Obama and testify that taking action – or implementing – presents a whole set of challenges that can sometimes be daunting. How can delays in implementing a strategy be anticipated? How can expectations or potential conflicts be managed around the implementation of a strategy? How to remain within the initial budget planned for the strategy during its implementation? These are some of the issues that the newly launched URBACT Implementation Networks are now set to work on. 

A short discussion note on civic participation for migrants and refugees

 The fifth workshop in our transnational learning and exchange programme will focus on the theme of “Civic participation of migrants and refugees” (1). This will take place in Val de Marne from 16-19 January 2018.

Collaborative Governance Tech Platform: lessons retain to increase community participation

The Community-Led Local Development (CLLD) Lisbon Network is a non-profit organisation created in 2015 following an application for Portugal 2020 funding. It is a strategy for Local Community-Based Development which primarily aims to promote, in certain areas, strategic and functional cooperation between partners, focusing on entrepreneurship, employment, education, training and social integration, in accordance with the Portugal 2020 Partnership Agreement and with the aims of the Europe 2020 strategy.
