The 9th Transnational Meeting (TNM) of the European Breaking Isolation network was held in Jumilla, Spain, bringing together all project partners for several days of rich and inspiring discussions focused on tackling social isolation.

A Surprise Experiment at the Heart of the TNM

One of the highlights of this edition was a surprise large-scale experiment organized by the host city, Jumilla. The team took advantage of the partners' presence to test a self-assessment tool measuring social isolation, offered directly to passersby in public spaces.

The goal? To raise awareness, spark conversations, and collect feedback from local residents about this rapid diagnostic tool. Simple yet powerful, the initiative caught the attention of other participating cities and served as concrete inspiration for their own upcoming experimental phases.

The City of Agen Shares Its Progress

The delegation from Agen also took this opportunity to present the progress of their local experiments, including:

  • - The guide against social isolation, recently tested on the pedestrian boulevard in Agen.

  • - Upcoming experiments such as friendship benches, cultural prescriptions, and the organization of intergenerational workshops.

A particularly appreciated moment: the feedback from a meeting between elderly people and youth around traditional games, organized in Agen. This concrete action perfectly embodies the spirit of the project—creating social ties through simple, fun, and human experiences.

An "Idea Market" to Enrich the Integrated Action Plan

A key moment of the TNM was led by European expert Christophe Gouache, who introduced an “Idea Market.” Each local group presented several ideas to be included in the future Integrated Action Plan (IAP), assigning each one a “value.”

Other participants could then “buy” the ideas that most interested them.

This playful and collaborative session helped highlight the creativity of each city, identify the most relevant proposals, and strengthen the spirit of sharing between partners. All ideas found “buyers,” a testament to their quality and adaptability.

Inspired by this success, the local group in Agen plans to replicate this format on a local scale, allowing Agen stakeholders to discover best practices from across Europe—and go even further in co-creating their IAP.
