Valongo's URBACT OnStage Transfer Story

Edited on 01/06/2021

How to transfer what participating in the URBACT OnStage network has meant for the city of Valongo? Here is the Transfer Story developed by this Portuguese city of 97,000 inhabitants.

VALONGO'S URBACT ONSTAGE TRANSFER STORY

CONCEPT:

We intend to tell the story from the perspective of the ULG Coordinator, working alongside with the promoter in PT, in this case the city hall. In order to do so in a personalised manner, it will be the story of this ULG coordinator promoting facilitating the process of the ULG along since its creation, reviewing the path of the project as a whole, namely when the city hall project manager applied for URBACT with a good practice, ending up invited to a transfer network and from then on developing the necessary so that the initiative takes shape in the city, in a participatory and taylor made way, engaging the municipality’s relevant stakeholders and mobilizing existing resources to provide young people and their communities with a new educational offer.

MAIN PARTS OF THE STORY:

  • The Invitation
  • Getting to Know the Good Practice
  • Characterising Valongo’s Starting Point
  • Creating the ULG
  • Designing the Transfer Plan
  • Defining and Characterizing the Target Group and respective context
  • Mapping local related projects, initiatives and resources
  • Creating Local Engagement through Public Debates
  • Promoting Experiencing Activities
  • Designing the Pilot Proposal
  • Dealing with unforeseen changes of events

HOW DO YOU PLAN TO INCORPORATE THE QUESTIONS/INFORMATION?

The timeline will work as a kind of story board for the project’s experience narrative from the point of view of the city hall. It will have ‘separators’ allowing for proper description for specific stages and context information. As such, it will be possible to indirectly – in order to keep up with the spirit of the storytelling – answer all the questions intended to be answered.
