In this second episode of Voices from the Stage, we travel from Budapest to the warm Mediterranean coast of Spain — specifically to the Mancomunidad de l’Horta Nord, a diverse constellation of ten municipalities just north of Valencia.
This region is known for its rich traditions, strong local identity, and landscapes shaped by orange fields, mountains, and the nearby sea. It is a place where people arrive in search of belonging, and where culture has long been a unifying force.
For the first time in the series, we speak with a local political leader: Alicia Piquer, Deputy Mayor of Rafelbunyol and an active voice within the RECUP Network. Her story is one of commitment, transformation, and the belief that culture is not a luxury — but a tool for repairing and reconnecting the social fabric.
Why This Conversation Matters
This episode of Voices from the Stage is more than an interview — it is an invitation to reflect on what makes a town, a city, or a territory truly thrive. It reminds us that community life is built not only through infrastructure or policy, but through shared moments, collective creativity, and spaces where people feel connected.
The Commonwealth of Horta Nord presented „Cultura de L’Horta Nord”, the new cultural platform culturahortanord.com – a shared digital space designed to unite and give visibility to the cultural programming of all municipalities in the region. This initiative aims to bring culture closer to residents, strengthen social links between towns, and highlight the cultural identity of Horta Nord.
By listening to local leaders like Alicia Piquer, we gain insight into how cultural policies, funding strategies, and grassroots energy come together to shape more inclusive and resilient urban futures.
Let’s Listen!
Join us on this journey between the sea and the mountains, and into the heart of a community that believes in the power of culture to transform everyday life.
