Abandoning instead of revitalising for nature outburst

The revitalisation of the Văcăreşti area was initiated by civil society in 2012. In 2016, in recognition of its unique status, the Romanian government designated the area as a nature park, thereby granting it protected status. The Văcăreşti Nature Park is the first urban nature park in Romania, as well as being the largest contiguous green space in Bucharest, covering 183 hectares.
