For URBACT, print and digital communication can be a powerful tool to inspire cities. Information about other cities — or activities in their own city — can make policymakers think differently, consider new ways of approaching their work, try out or adapt practices from other places and improve their own policies. By sharing their knowledge, experience, and above all, their stories, URBACT stakeholders — National URBACT Points, Lead Experts, Communication Officers and cities involved in URBACT networks and Programme Experts — are key players in this process. In order to improve their writing skills and thus strengthen their ability to play this vital role, the URBACT Secretariat has produced this guide covering the fundamentals of writing about integrated urban development. The guide was prepared by Citiscope (www.citiscope.org), a non-profit media outlet that specialises in urban journalism with the help of the URBACT Secretariat.

Adapting to life in a pandemic has not been easy in both our work and home life, with positives few and far between. As the C-change project works closely alongside arts and cultural organisations, witnessing the substantial challenges of the pandemic on the sector, it can be hard to see past the negatives at times. However, on a project management level, there is one positive that C-change and other URBACT network can take from the new ways of working - the carbon savings made due to our inability to travel.

HEALTHY CITIES: A várostervezés és az egészség összekapcsolása

MIÉRT FONTOS VÁROSUNK EGÉSZSÉGSZEMPONTÚ TERVEZÉSE?

Szinte minden várostervezési politika és intézkedés hatással van az emberi egészségre. Ön kerékpárral vagy autóval jár munkába? Kapcsolatba lép közben a közösséggel, vagy csupán keresztülingázik rajta? És amikor stresszesnek érzi magát, könnyen elérhető az ön számára valamilyen közeli zöldterület, hogy kifújhassa magát? Amikor az emberek meghallják az egészségpolitika szót, általában a kórházakra gondolnak. De az egészség egy holisztikus, több tényezőből álló dolog, főleg, ha várostervezésről beszélünk. A városi környezet megtervezése abból indul ki, hogy a lakosságnak szüksége van-e ilyen kórházakra és azok szolgáltatásait milyen gyakran veszi igénybe. A várostervezők határozzák meg a tervezés helyszíneit, a szolgáltatásokat, és rengeteg tudományos bizonyíték támasztja alá, hogy ezek a tényezők bizony nagy hatással vannak a lakosság egészségére. Az ISGLOBAL a légszennyezést, a zajt, a hőt, valamint a fizikai aktivitás vagy a természetes tér hiányát azonosította a városban élő emberek egészségkárosító tényezőiként (lásd 1. ábra). A jó várostervezés azonban nemcsak enyhítheti ezeknek a veszélyeknek a hatását, hanem elősegítheti egy minden szempontból egészségesebb város létrejöttét is.

CITIES4CSR: What's new? An Overview of the project activities from November 2020 to February 2021

From November 2020, the main activites of CITIES4CSR project were concentrated on the delivery of Integrated Action Plan (IAP) roadmaps, mapping out each city partner’s plan  towards IAP delivery and the steps to be taken to reach the goal, through the combination of transnational exchange and the local support of Urbact Local Groups.
