  • 2Nite Journal #3

The 2Nite network gathered in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, for its second Transnational Meeting, and various webinars, amongst which public space activation and storytelling. Hosted by the Municipality of Cluj-Napoca, the two-day event brought together project partners, local stakeholders, and community representatives.

The meeting served as a vital mid-term touchpoint to explore how European cities can better understand, measure, and improve public space liveability and safety perceptions, particularly within urban neighborhoods undergoing rapid demographic and spatial change. Through interactive workshops, on-the-ground field exploration, and strategic planning sessions, partners collaborated to shape the next phase of their Integrated Action Plans.

  • From punitive surveillance to inclusive security: the IMPATTO paradigm in Torino

Across European cities, urban security is undergoing a critical paradigm shift away from punitive surveillance and hostile architecture. As the 2Nite URBACT network demonstrates, true security is inherently tied to social cohesion, spatial justice, and civic life. Based on the experience carried out by Tonite, the City of Turin has developed the IMPATTO Urban program, where urban security is a multidisciplinary concept tied to social dynamics, culture, mobility, and the night economy. To counteract this, Turin is pioneering a place-based, participatory governance model that transforms vulnerable neighborhoods through the activation of proximity services, ensuring public squares are vibrant and co-managed by citizens.

  • Braga and Famalicão (Pentagono Urbano) - Portugal 20th April - 22nd April 2026 - 2Nite Transnational Meeting

The third Transnational Meeting of the URBACT 2Nite project was held within the framework of the Pentágono Urbano, an association of five Portuguese cities working together on shared urban challenges. Building on previous exchanges, the primary goal of this gathering was to follow up on the activities carried by the partner cities and the concrete actions they are carrying throughout 2Nite. The meeting aimed to foster a deeper understanding of how to sustain community engagement over time, navigate complex cooperation ecosystems, and finalize investment plans for urban revitalization. Furthermore, it provided space to discuss a collaborative platform to prepare for the network's final political outputs, potentially including a shared manifesto regarding the ethical, accessible, and inclusive use of public spaces.

  • Cluj-Napoca 20-21 November 2025

    Cluj-Napoca (RO), 20-21 November 2025 - 2Nite Transnational Meeting

The 2Nite network gathered in Cluj-Napoca for its second Transnational Meeting on 20–21 November 2025. Over two days, partners explored how the involved European cities can better understand and improve liveability and perception of safety on public space, especially in neighbourhoods undergoing rapid change. Hosted by the Municipality of Cluj-Napoca, the meeting brought together local stakeholders, community representatives, and project partners for presentations, workshops, discussions, and field visits.

The purpose of the meeting was not only to check on progress, but also to exchange good practices and  deepen the collaboration among partners, learn from local experiences, and collectively shape the next phases of the project. The sessions alternated between structured inputs, group work, and on-the-ground exploration of recent urban transformations.
