2024: A Year of Collaboration and Progress for C4TALENT

Edited on 23/12/2024

Strengthening partnerships and building strategies to tackle brain drain.

As we approach the end of 2024, it’s time to reflect on what has been a busy and productive year for the C4TALENT network. From in-person meetings in inspiring cities to valuable masterclasses and ongoing virtual collaboration, this year has demonstrated the network’s dedication to its mission.

🌍 In-Person Highlights
This year’s first in-person meeting took place in Vilanova i la Geltrú, from May 28th to 30th. The agenda included reviewing progress and challenges faced by partner cities, along with a deep dive into the Integrated Action Plan process. Study visits to Tecnocampus Mataró, a university-based enterprise and innovation center, and Norrsken House Barcelona, Europe’s largest hub for tech and impact, provided hands-on learning experiences.

Between  October  1-3, the network gathered again, this time in Alghero, where peer reviews, interactive discussions, a joint ULG meeting and a guided exploration of the city fabric strengthened connections among partners. These in-person events have played a vital role in fostering collaboration and generating fresh ideas.

🎓 Learning from Experts
Throughout the year, partners benefited from insightful masterclasses delivered by respected experts, including Tracey Johnson, Alison Partridge, and Marcus Andersson. Topics ranged from building a functional entrepreneurial ecosystem to innovative strategies for talent attraction. These sessions have refined the partners’ understanding and approach as they continue developing their Integrated Action Plans (IAPs).

🔍 Focused on Planning and Action
Since January 2024, C4TALENT has been in its 'Planning Actions' stage, during which partners have worked to better understand their core talent attraction challenges. This phase, concluding on December 31, 2024, has involved brainstorming solutions, testing actions, and developing comprehensive IAPs. These strategic documents outline how each partner city will address brain drain by fostering supportive ecosystems to attract and retain talent.

💻 Virtual Collaboration and Local Action
In addition to in-person events, the year included numerous check-in calls, webinars, Urban Local Group (ULG) meetings, and other virtual sessions. These regular touchpoints have ensured steady progress across the ten partner cities and kept efforts aligned toward shared goals.

📅 Looking Ahead to 2025
As the ‘Preparing Implementation’ stage begins next year, partners will focus on finalizing their IAPs. This involves defining actions, securing resources, and establishing clear steps for implementation. The groundwork laid in 2024 will provide a strong foundation as the network transitions from planning to action.
