Edited on 03/09/2024

The first intergenerational BiodiverCity festival in Poljcane was organised on 6 th June 2024 together with the local elderly association, kindergarten and primary school. The location of the festival was carefully selected; thus, it was carried out under the hayrack near the Dravinja River.

The mayor Petra Vrhovnik presented the URBACT BiodiverCity project and why such project is important for the community, beside that there were several activities going on such as:

a] storytelling: elderly explained how life lookalike in the old days to younger generations,

b] drawings: kindergarten children draw paintings, about the local nature, and express themselves how they perceive nature around them,

c] mingling: open discussions with locals how they feel about the surrounding nature

d] entertainment program: all generations presented themselves with singing, dancing, reciting, etc. Local farmers’ association prepared a feast with local delicacies.

This was the first such festival in Poljcane and it appear to be the showcase of the most exciting innovators in the field of “eco-citizen” science, designing and creatively enabling intergenerational dialogue. It actually empowered audience to become “agents of change” in the Dravina Valley and broader.
