Edited on 27/11/2024

As part of the BiodiverCity project, the Green Student Parliament gathered in Veszprém's City Hall on 26 November 2024 to engage in discussions on environmental and social sustainability. This unique biennial forum, which has been running for 16 years, serves as a platform for young people in Hungary to voice their concerns and propose solutions for pressing sustainability issues.

This year’s event brought together 90 students from 11 schools, highlighting the increasing interest and involvement of youth in sustainability-related topics. During the opening session, Csik Richárd, municipal councillor and sustainability advisor, spoke about Veszprém’s ongoing initiatives to promote eco-consciousness and reduce environmental impact. He also emphasised the critical role of young people in shaping societal attitudes and fostering a more sustainable future.

Szűcs Attila, representing the Bakony-Balaton Environmental Education Centre and co-organiser of the event, highlighted the importance of empowering youth to take an active part in public discourse on sustainability. He described the Parliament as an opportunity for young minds to collaborate, exchange ideas, and become advocates for change within their communities.

The event is an essential element of the BiodiverCity project, fostering dialogue, education, and action to enhance local environmental awareness and support long-term sustainability goals.
