How to move a crowd: a mobility cookbook for modest cities with big festivals (by Petr Schiller and Ameba Production team)

Since 2007, the four-day Rock for People festival has been held in Hradec Králové (Czech Republic), with attendance steadily increasing each year. However, last year the city hosted a premiere event that welcomed the same number of visitors in just one day. The key to success was communication and proper coordination among the organizational team’s various components. This article offers a retrospective look at how the transportation situation was managed before, during, and after the events that took place last year at Park 360. In addition to the festival, two concerts by global megastar Ed Sheeran brought nearly 100,000 people to the city—roughly equivalent to its entire population. Yet, everything went smoothly, and the city's regular traffic was not disrupted.

Hradec Králové is always happy to accept such a challenge with openness, careful planning and the desire to share both our experience and our learning process.

Osona: participatory planning for a new interurban bus system

Osona’s rural and semi-urban areas suffer from fragmented bus services and car dependency. Five decentralized workshops with 40 of 52 municipalities co-designed proposals for demand-responsive transport (DRT) pilots, fare unification and extended service hours. This stakeholder-led model provides a replicable blueprint for rural mobility planning across Europe.
