Webinar «Exploring the “A” in STEAM - Where science, technology and creativity meet»

Edited on 24/11/2025

Future STEAM Cities (Innovative Transfer Network) aims to explore and transfer innovative approaches to STEAM (*Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) education, digital skills development, and urban talent attraction.

Following the first network webinar “Beyond STEAM Education: Can we imagine the future of STEAM education?”, we will stream our second webinar, on 2 December, from 09:00 to 11:00 CET, dedicated to one of its core questions:

«Exploring the “A” in STEAM - Where science, technology and creativity meet»

For some, it represents Art; for others, it stands for creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, soft skills, or a humanistic approach. This conversation will explore these perspectives and the role of the “A” in shaping the future of education, innovation, and inclusive urban development.

The webinar will bring together diverse voices to explore how the “A” - in all its meanings - connects artistic, humanistic, and scientific approaches to learning and innovation. Through a series of short Future Talks, each speaker will illustrate a unique dimension of the “A”:

The Role of Museums in STEAM | Mazovian Museum (PL) | Joanna Michalska-Iwankiewicz
How museums can act as bridges between art and science - creating experiences that help audiences of all ages understand how cultural movements, such as Art Nouveau during the industrial revolution, reveal the ongoing dialogue between technology and creativity.

Art & Innovation | Fundación Épica (SP) | Fran Iglesias Gracia
Exploring how artistic methodologies can inspire and drive technological innovation. Through collaborations between artists, technologists, and scientists, creative experimentation becomes a form of research - expanding the boundaries of both art and science.

Health Literacy & STEAM | University of Aveiro (PT) | Ana Pinto
Looking inside the brain to understand how rational and creative processes interact. What does neuroscience tell us about imagination, problem-solving, and the essential role of the creative mind in fostering innovation and adaptability?

Engineering & Sound | Sonic College (DK) | Lars Tirsbaek
Sound as a meeting point between physics and art - an example of how engineering principles and sensory experience intertwine to create understanding, emotion, and expression.

The role of arts fostering interest in STEAM fields and academic success | European Network of STEAM Educators (EASE) | Nelson Gomes

How the integration of arts into school curricula can enhance students' curiosity, engagement, and creativity to successfully understand math, engineering or science and prepare them for this new digital era.

These talks will lead into a collective imagination session, inviting participants to reflect on what the “A” means in their own city contexts and how it can shape local educational and innovation ecosystems.

Aims of the webinar

.  Inspire bold thinking by exploring diverse and forward-looking perspectives on how creativity, design thinking, and artistic expression enrich scientific and technical disciplines.

.  Create space for curiosity and imagination, encouraging participants to step outside traditional models and envision new possibilities for STEAM education in their local context.

.  Foster dialogue across boundaries - bringing together city partners, educators, and innovators in an open and inclusive conversation.

.  Surface meaningful takeaways to help participants identify what they’re taking forward, what’s shifting, and what they’re ready to leave behind.

.  Encourage action by linking inspiration to practical next steps - how ideas from the session might be applied, adapted, or explored further in each city.
