Summary
Dr. Marko Kovačić is a former youth worker turned academic, currently serving as Head of the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Rijeka. As an associate professor, he teaches courses in public policy, political sociology, and youth studies.
Before assuming this position, he was Vice-Dean for Research and International Cooperation at Bernays University of Applied Sciences.
Marko is the founder and lecturer of the first academic youth studies program in Croatia, established at the University of Rijeka. For the past 13 years, he has been actively involved in numerous national and European youth policy processes. He has authored more than 70 academic papers and managed over 30 international projects. He has also worked with the URBACT programme for several years, supporting cities in the development of integrative action plans.
His expertise in participatory governance is evident through his contributions to various policy processes in collaboration with numerous international organizations. His proficiency in integrated and participatory approaches is reflected in his extensive experience coordinating diverse stakeholder groups across multiple cities. His role in the design of integrated strategies highlights his significant impact in this field.
Dr. Kovačić completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Graz and holds a Ph.D. in public policy from the University of Ljubljana. He also holds two master’s degrees, one in political science from Central European University in Budapest and another in public policy from the University of Zagreb, where he also earned his bachelor’s degree in political science. Additionally, he was a visiting researcher at Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona.
