Edited on 18/11/2025

On 17 and 18 June 2025, the 5th International Meeting of the Re Gen URBACT Project took place, with Vila do Conde as the host city. This event brought together representatives from nine European cities that are developing an integrated action plan for urban regeneration, with an emphasis on sport and community participation.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Deputy Mayor of Vila do Conde, Engª Sara Lobão, and the Councillor for Equality and Social Action, Dr. Carla Peixoto, who officially marked the start of the proceedings. Over the remaining days, the various teams shared their experiences and the progress of the projects they are developing in the nine European cities. This event promotes urban revitalisation in a participatory and sustainable way, involving different actors and local communities in several countries simultaneously.

In Vila do Conde, the Integrated Action Plan focused on revitalizing the urban space surrounding the Dálias neighborhood and Parque dos Avós. This involved nearly two years of participatory work, with ongoing resident engagement, youth consultations, and pilot projects aimed to strengthen community participation and citizen voice in the city's transformation, ensuring that it is even more widely used and cared for by Vila do Conde residents.

On June 20th, the project resulting from this work under the Re-Gen project was presented. The Mayor of Vila do Conde, Dr. Vítor Costa, presented the future of this space in the Dálias neighborhood. A project designed by the community that responds to their needs and utilizes the urban space as a place for young people to live and socialize.
