Core Network Meeting in Krakow, Poland
On April 1-2, ARCHETHICS partner cities met in Krakow (Poland) to work together for exchange and learning on dissonant heritage. The higlights of the two days meeting include:
- A Peer Review Session of the Integrated Action Plans (IAP) draft
- Advice and good practices on IAP production with a focus meeting held by
Nils Scheffler, URBACT ad hoc expert - A study visit in the Nowa Huta district
- the Urban local group Coordinators Board Meeting
- a Political board meeting on Dissonant heritage
- the drafting the Manifesto / City guide practical tool for sustainable management of dissonant heritage
- A study visit of Krakow old town
From the meeting with Nilf Scheffler, there were several interesting insights, but the most relevant tip was to match the URBACT Integrated urban approach with the Multiperspective approach designed by ARCHETHICS. Here follows the infographic illustrating the integrated approach:
Key Insights from the Political board meeting:

During the political board sessions emerged other interesting insights:
- actively involve young people as producers and not just consumers
- develop youth-oriented multimedia materials, games and mediation formats
- link dissonant heritage to everydays topics to make it relatable for young people
- work with actors and institutions that are specialised in addressing, communicating and working with young people
- Ensure adaptive re-use of heritage sites through authentic preservation, appropriate uses, activities and offers on site respectful of the history of the place, a multi-perspective on sites and the involvement of different actors
Bilateral Meetings: Community planning and youth involvement
An important appointment of the two days was the first bilateral meeting about community planning and youth involvement.
Among the higlights of the meeting there was the presentation of the memory trips organised by the organisation DEINA, the presentation by Ileana Toscano on the experiences Playful paradigm and play
placemaking as a method for engaging with youth, the sharing of useful tips from the Panel "Echoes of the pasts" (summarized in the picture below), and, finally, the partcipation of the partner cities in the activity of the Human library to share their own life experiences on community planning and activism focusing on youth engagement

Testing actions: the experience of Permet and Betera
The cities of Permet (Albania) and Betera (Spain), respectively on the 24th and on the 26th of May, tested two different actions for the first time: the former to foster intergenerational approach to dissonant heritage and the latter to promote its dissonate as a touristic and memory site.
The considerations we can draw from their experiences are:
- The possibilities offered by the initiative of storytelling and sharing memories helps to preserve the legacy of these momentous events for younger generations.
- Activities of this nature not only bring vibrancy to the lives of the elderly but alsopromote intergenerational understanding through the exchange of experiences and new ideas
- For the city of Betera it has been very enriching day that prepares and encourages the
Municipality undertake new tourist activities around our dissonant heritage.
The common European heritage week in Trieste
Finally, another worthnoty event was the working day “Architecture and
Transborder Spaces” organised for the “Common European Heritage Week” held in the Univiersity of Trieste (Italy), on February 25th. ARCHETHICS project was showcased and a participative workshop on enhancement of dissonant heritage was proposed to students.
