Bee good for food in Cesena

Edited on 24/06/2021

Cesena is situated in Northern Italy within the Emilia-Romagna Region, some 15 km from the Adriatic coast. Its geographical position – alongside the banks of the Savio river, surrounded by hills and located on a fertile plain close to the Adriatic coast – offered Cesena a perfect natural predisposition of a “bee friendly city”. Bees are seen as fundamental to maintain biodiversity and to play a part in every aspect of the ecosystem.

The City of Cesena is in Italy, which meant that in 2020 they were facing one of the harshest lockdowns of us all. Despite this they managed to work on the project and reach people of all ages with new and ground breaking approaches. The survey showed that the residents like bees but they are not so sure if their place is in the city. The World Bee Day event of 2020 was one of the biggest challenges Cesena had to overcome as they were in full lockdown. The whole event was moved online, which brought advantages as well as disadvantages. One of the advantages was that a wider audience could be reached, but the disadvantage was that the face to face experience wasn’t possible.
