On the 20th of May we are celebrating the World Bee Day round the globe. It is taking place on international level at FAO and Apimondia with partners (see more), within 115 countries that, in addition to Slovenia, supported nomination of that day, and hopefully also in your city!
Five BeePathNet Reloaded partner cities are organising celebrations. Go to exhibitions, join workshops, take a walk or just plant a flower in your garden. See detailed programmes of inspiring activities that will take place:
“All pollinators are important and welcome in the city of Ljubljana” (Slovenia) where during the month of May you can visit the exhibition “Bee in Ljubljana” where you can learn all about the Bee Path in Ljubljana, which you can top of with a guided tour of the Bee Path, attend the 1st international API pedagogy conference, view the promotional campaign on bus stops as well as attend a round table. There will be many happenings, we are sure everyone can find something that appeals to them.
In Bansko (Bulgaria) the celebrations will be held under the banner “Plant a tree – support beekeeping”. The first activities started in April with the distribution of melliferous tree plants and will continue all through May and June. Several schools are taking part each with different activities planned and even a kindergarten. For citizens that have no room to plant trees the municipality will be distributing bags of seeds and there will be an opportunity to attend a round table about urban beekeeping.
“Like industrious bees – Bergamo and its citizens celebrate pollinators” in Bergamo (Italy) the celebrations are spread among several institutions and locations proving that they are industrious bees indeed. You will be able to attend different workshops for the youngest residents as well as for the oldest residents. The parties and readings as well as bee hotel making workshops will transform your days especially as they will give you an opportunity to visit the Bergamo Botanic Garden, the Natural Sciences Museum or any of the other locations.
In Osijek (Croatia) the municipality is trying to bring pollinators closer to residents with “Pollination, not pollution: building a better environment for bees and other pollinators”. With this initiative key stakeholders from the city as well as representatives from various education institutions, beekeeping association and the Chamber of Commerce will try showing the public the lovely world of pollinators. Workshops about greening the city are surely the way to go.
Sosnowiec (Poland) is where you can “Follow the Bee Path and rediscover Sosnowiec from a Bee’s Perspective”. The first ever World Bee Day celebration in Sosnowiec will give you the opportunity to learn about the fascinating world of bees, pollinating insects and local nature. There will be guided tours, concerts, workshops, exhibitions and many other events. Don’t miss the opportunity to join them.
