TM Berlin: Stay Tuned in quotes - "ELET is complex, not complicated"

Edited on 20/12/2018

During the meeting in Berlin (June 2018) the project partners focused on the case of the Jugendberufsagentur (JBA), and the story of its implementation journey. Excellent opportunity to collect some reactions and learning experiences from the partners, since Stay Tuned celebrated its 1st birthday in June. Stay Tuned in quotes.

  • Darlies (Berlin, Germany)
“The problem with this project is that we want to show what we do, but we don’t know how we do it. We tend to tell each other about the what, but this project is really about the how.”
“A second problem: when you finally know how to do it, it is not easy to know how to have impact in your own city.”
  • Ian (project expert)
“Stay Tuned is a new kind of network for URBACT, a pilot project, a forerunner. Next to exchange experiences and good practices on ELET, we focus on what makes implementation so difficult. It would be great if we could report on ways how to implement local changes on a city level, on ELET ànd other issues.”

  • Christian (Berlin, Germany)
“Important to know about JBA is that five different organisations, working together under one roof, were forced to understand and adapt to each other’s goals and working styles.”

  • Vasso & Magda (Tessaloniki, Greece)
“The project partners focused on the case of the Jugendberufsagentur (JBA), and the story of its implementation journey. What I learned from this project, by talking to colleagues from other cities, is that we need to make a digital ànd printed guide with all the possibilities in high school. Parents do not kow, I did not know myself as a parent. An overview guide is what they need.”

  • Peter (project expert)
    ELET is complex, not complicated.”

  • Jugendberufsagentur (JBA)
    “Nobody is left behind.” (slogan)
“Searching for who is not visible.”
“It works because we work so closely together with the schools, in such an early stage and because we are present – in body and mind – in the school. The students know us.”
“What do you need for a project like JBA? 1/ Money 2/ political willingness to make this a priority 3 time.”
“It works if you have people with empathy, who are prepared to combine thire old job with the new JBA job. We teach each other.”
“In the beginning it is easy, because the ‘early adapters’ are quickly making the mental ‘click’. The hard part is also convincing the others, people who tend to lock themselves in their offices because they are afraid of the change.”

  • Jessie (Ghent, Belgium)
“ELET is a complex story. Working on gelijke onderwijskansen has also a positive effect on ELET. The problem is that it is difficult to know what is preventief and what is curatief, and schools are not able to identify the students who would need a preventive approach. This makes it difficult to develop an efficient way of working on ELET.”
“Schools are being overwhelmed. A multidisciplinary approach works in the long run (you do not have ROI immediately), but school teams find it very complex to keep the overview. Solution: shared responsibility in time and resources.”
